After a frustrating start to the season of having two league games cancelled Rumney Development made the short journey down Newport Road to play a strong St Peters side. 

 

The development team were boasting a very strong team and made a decent start. Rumney were dominating up front both in the set piece and from some yard making carries, particularly from Joe Brown and Michael Young. The first 20 minutes were nip and tuck but Rumney finally broke the deadlock when fly half Daniel Clark broke through to score under the posts and convert his own try. Another try from Daniel Clark and a try from Joe Brown helped Rumney to a healthy 28-5 Half Time lead.

 

The second half was more of the same with Rumney dominating in most aspects of the game and with the game opening up centre Lewis Mills was beginning to pick holes in the St Peter’s defence. 

 

Deep in to the second half prop Joe ‘Sonny Bill’ Brown bagged his second try of the game and that was followed by a good solo effort by Lewis Mills. 

 

A spirited St Peters team managed to get a couple of tries towards the end of the game to close the scoreline but all in all, it was a good, convincing start for the Mighty Dev, final score 38-24.

 

Man of the Match was Joe Wilcox who worked tirelessly throughout and made some crucial tackles and turnovers.

 

Next for the Development is a home fixture against Dinas Powys on the 29th September.
