Welsh Youth Cup Quarter Final Rumney RFC v Pontypridd RFC

Great result for Rumney RFC youth Winning the game 21-11, it was a hard-fought game with Rumney edging the first 20 mins 6-0 with two penalty goals which were converted by Jake Hillman. Pontypridd game back strong Befitting from a Rumney mistake which lead to a penalty which they kicked for the corner and scored a well worked catch and drive to reduce the lead to 6-5. They continued to put the pressure on Rumney and were awarded two penalties in the last 10 mins of the first half which they also converted and went in half time leading 11-6.

                  The game was even for the next 10 mins with only a penalty separating the two sides which was awarded to Rumney,  Jake Hillman again converting to take the score to 9-11 Pontypridd. 10 mins into the second half both sides made changes off the bench, with Rumney’s bench having the bigger impact. 5 mins later with fresh legs on the field the Rumney pack gathered strength moving up the field with some great carries across the gain line, spotting the gaps out wide they spread the ball out to outside centre Tom Meahan who broke through the Pontypridd defence, only to find wing Jay jones who had come off his left wing to be on his inside shoulder to receive the inside pass out pacing everyone to score under the posts. converted again by Jake Hillman. Rumney now leading 16-11 were piling on the pressure, it wasn’t long before they crossed the white wash again. The Rumney pack working tirelessly as they had all game gave good ball to the backs who got the ball out wide to Jay Jones, jay still having a bit to do managed to beat the full back to score a great try in the corner. Rumney seen out the rest of the game without conceding anymore points finally winning the game 21-11.

The draw for the Welsh youth cup Semi-final has been made with another mouth-watering tie for Rumney RFC youth to now face another tuff challenge against Newbridge RFC on the 24^th March   ground to be decided.
